Beast Builder and Avatar Overview

A monster avatar is your student's Beast Academy Online (BA Online) profile picture. Their avatar is shown on your Parent Account page under your subscriptions, in their personal profile in BA Online, as well as in BA Online's Leaderboards. They create their avatar using Beast Builder in BA Online.

Note:

  • If your student doesn't want to create a monster, they don't have to. They can get creative and make any avatar or profile picture they'd like, or they can leave their picture as is
  • Beast Builder Access is on by default, but it can be turned off under your student's subscription settings on your Parent Account page

What is Beast Builder?

Beast Builder is located within BA Online and is where students can spend Beast Bucks on parts to create their own monster avatar. Students gain Beast Bucks by earning stars and trophies in lessons and by gaining levels.

Students access the Beast Builder by:

  1. Selecting their Profile Picture in the navigation bar
    1. This will take them to their profile
  2. Selecting the Pencil icon next to their their avatar

Parts Catalog

Students can access parts to build their avatar in the Parts Catalog on the left side of the screen.

Beast Bucks

Students can see how many Beast Bucks they've earned below their name in the navigation bar.

Students have a limited amount of Beast Bucks to spend on parts.

Available signifies how many Beast Bucks students have left to spend on parts.

Total signifies the total number of Beast Bucks they've earned.

Head Parts

To see available head parts, students will need to select the Monster Head.

Eyes unlock at Level 1.

Mouths unlock at Level 5.

Heads unlock at Level 14.

Ears and Horns unlock at Level 17.

Hair unlocks at Level 20.

Body Parts

To see available body parts, students will need to select the Monster Body

Body shapes unlock at Level 1.

Legs unlock at Level 8.

Arms unlock at Level 11.

Tails unlock at Level 23.

Wings unlocks at Level 26.

To view a larger grid of parts, students will need to select See More.

To add a part to their Beast, students will need to select the + (Plus Sign).

How to Edit Beast Avatars

These action buttons are at the bottom of the screen:

Select All - Select all parts of your current avatar.

Undo last change.

Redo the last change undone.

Access your photo gallery to take a picture or update your profile photo. You can save up to six photos in your gallery.

Students can select a part by selecting the part itself or selecting it from within the Layer Menu. They can move a part anywhere inside the center circle.

All changes your student makes in Beast Builder are saved automatically. If they leave Beast Builder and return, their avatar will look the same as when they left it.

Students can edit individual parts with the buttons on the corners of a selected part:

Reflect (flip) the part across a vertical line.

Reflect (flip) the part across a horizontal line.

Rotate (spin) the part.

Resize the part.

If they've selected more than one part, they can reflect, rotate, or resize all of them at once.

At the bottom of your student's screen, there are more buttons to edit individual parts:

Make a copy of the part.

Delete the part.

Open the color selection tool.

Students can select any color to choose it, and select the arrows to see more color options. Some parts can't change color.

Layering

The Layer Menu on the right side of the screen shows how all of the parts of your student's avatar are stacked on top of each other.

Students can select any part to change the layer. Parts that are behind other parts may not be visible. Students can see and select any part of their avatar in the Layer Menu, even if some parts aren't visible.

Sends the part to the top layer.

Sends the part up one layer.

Sends the part to the bottom layer.
