Beast Academy math curriculum is organized into five levels, each roughly corresponding to a grade level. Whether you're purchasing books or a subscription to Beast Academy Online (BA Online), you'll need to select a starting level for your student.
This guide covers the importance of selecting the right level for your student and how to do so via our placement test.
Note:
- Our placement test is only for Beast Academy math.
- If you've ordered books in the past 30 days but realized that you need a different level for your student, you can exchange qualified Bundle books or return qualified books.
The Importance of Accurate Level Selection
There are two main reasons why it's important to select the right Beast Academy level for your student:
- Because our levels tend to be slightly more difficult than grade level, the appropriate starting level isn't always the student's current grade level. Initial placement in the right level can help to ensure students find early success before advancing to more challenging content.
- You can change your student's BA Online level at any time. Physical books ship at the level you chose at checkout unless you update it before shipment. Return shipping is the responsibility of the customer and books must be in new condition (no writing, etc.) to qualify for an exchange or refund.
How the Placement Test Works
At the start of the placement test, your student will input their grade level. The test is adaptive, which means that we'll start by showing them problems from their grade-level and adjust based on the level of mastery demonstrated.
Where Students Take the Placement Test
Where you access the placement test from will depend on which type of Beast Academy materials you'll be using.
If you're purchasing books only, we recommend that your student take the placement test before you purchase a level. The placement test will let you know in which level your student placed. Students can retake the placement test at any time.
Note: Because the same placement test is used for Art of Problem Solving's courses, the placement test's results page will present your level as a course name. For example, the course name "Honors Math 1" would signify that your student has placed in Beast Academy Level 1 and "Honors Math 5" would signify that your student has placed in Beast Academy Level 5.
During the Student Account setup process, you can choose to have your student take the placement test before they start playing BA Online. Your student will start playing at the level and chapter that they place at and their level will be reflected under your subscriptions settings for that student.
How to Retake the Placement Test in BA Online
Students can take the placement test from their BA Online profile; doing so will automatically move them to the level and chapter that they place at.
To retake the placement test, navigate to the student's profile and select Take Test.
