After purchasing your student's Beast Academy Online (BA Online) subscription and confirming your Parent Account email address, you'll need to set up their Student Account so they can start learning. Since your student's subscription begins immediately after purchase, completing this setup promptly allows them to begin using BA Online right away.
This guide covers how to set up your student's account.
Note:
- Before setting up your student's account, you'll need to first purchase their BA Online subscription.
- We recommend that your student be present when you set up their account. Doing so will build excitement and ownership of their learning experience while ensuring they select sign-in credentials they like.
- Once you've set up your student's account, you can easily switch from your Parent Account to their Student Account without entering their credentials.
1. Sign in to beastacademy.com
How to sign in to your Parent Account.
If you have at least one Student Account to set up, you'll automatically be taken to the Student Account setup process upon login.
3. Enter Name
Note:
- You can change your student's name at any point.
- If you have an existing Parent Account and added this student to your account, you won't see this step as you'll have already provided the student's name when you purchased their subscription.
Our system uses names to help you differentiate your students when managing their accounts.
To provide your student's name:
- Enter the student's first name in the Name field.
- Select Continue.
4. Select Age
Providing your student's age will help us recommend the best level to start your student at.
To provide your student's age:
- Select their birth month and year from the drop downs.
- Select Next.
5. Select Placement Test or Level
Tip: You can change your student's level at any time.
While each BA Online subscription provides students with access to all levels and material within BA Online, your student's level determines where they'll start. At this step you can choose your student's level or have them take the placement test. We recommend taking the placement test as that will provide a more accurate placement for your student. The placement test is adaptive, which means that the test will start by showing them problems from their grade level, and will select future problems based on their answers.
To confirm your student's level:
- Optional: Select the left or right arrows to choose a different level.
- Select Continue.
You'll then be taken to the Create Nickname screen as shown in Step 7.
7. Create Nickname
Our system uses student nicknames (also referred to as usernames) to uniquely identify your student, track their progress, and display their achievements on the leaderboard. They'll be using this nickname, along with their password, to sign in to BA Online.
7.1. Choose Nickname
- Have your student select two words: one that describes them, and one that names their favorite animal.
- These words will be combined with a number to generate a unique nickname.
- Select Next.
7.2. Confirm Nickname
Note: Your student's nickname cannot be changed later, so ensure that it's a name they like before moving on to the next step. If they would like a different nickname, they can select Change It to be brought back to the previous screen.
If your student likes their nickname, select I Like It!
8. Specify a Password
- In the Password fields, have your student enter the password that they'll use to sign in to BA Online.
- Select Set Password.
Note:
- Passwords must be at least five characters long and can't include the student's name or any part of their nickname.
- You can change your student's password at any point from your Parent Account page.
Selecting Set Password will complete your student's account setup.
9. Take Placement Test
Tip: You're welcome to help your student with technical issues, including entering their answers during the placement test. However, to ensure that they're placed in the most accurate level, we encourage you to let them solve the problems themselves.
Once their account setup is complete, your student will be able to take the placement test (if you opted for that in Step 5).
To take the test, they'll select Take Test. Selecting this button will switch accounts, signing you out of your Parent Account and your student into their Student Account.
10. Return to Beast Academy
Once the placement test is complete, your student can select Back to Beast Academy to return to BA Online and see where they placed.
11. Select Next
Once your student returns to BA Online, they can select Next to see which level they were placed in.
12. Level Placement
Your student can then select Yes, Let's Go to be taken to the class view page for that chapter within BA Online.
Your student's lock scheme, which determines how they advance through BA Online's learning content, will be automatically set to Sequential, which is our official recommendation for most students. However, you can change their lock scheme as well as their level at any time.
