Play settings within your Parent Account provide you with several different ways to control how your student advances through Beast Academy Online (BA Online) learning content, which includes lessons, tests, and puzzles.
This guide covers the BA Online play settings available to you as a parent and additional resources for those settings.
Note: If your student's current BA Online access was provided through AoPS Academy, you won't have access to adjust their levels, locks, or lock schemes as they are automatically set and adjusted.
Levels
Beast Academy curriculum is organized into five levels, each roughly corresponding to a grade level. While a BA Online subscription provides access to all five levels, the level you select for your student is the level they'll start at in BA Online. However, you can change their level at any point. Therefore, if you start your student on a level that's too easy or difficult, you can always move them forward or backward in the curriculum.
Lock Schemes
The lock scheme you select for your student determines how they advance through BA Online's learning content. You first set your student's lock scheme when you set up their Student Account. However, you can change their lock scheme under the Subscriptions tab on your Parent Account page at any point.
We offer three lock schemes:
- Sequential
- All Chapters
- Free Play

While you can set a lock scheme for each of your students, manual locks override the lock schemes, providing greater control over their access to BA Online learning content, on a more granular level.
